Newest Academic Stars

To turn the spotlight to our latest Academic Stars in the College of Arts and Sciences, it's my pleasure to introduce you to a karaoke buff, an opera enthusiast, and an avid gardener, our inaugural staff honorees.

For the last three and a half years, Bryan Miller has worked as a technology support specialist for several departments, including geosciences and anthropology. Although he's a relatively new employee of the college, he has already made a name for himself as a reliable, highly competent and positive presence on campus. He has received both monthly and annual staff awards, and I'm thrilled to add Academic Star to his list of accolades.

On the other end of the job tenure continuum are Linda Mahloch and LeAnn Messing, who have worked in UNL's English department for a combined total of 75 years. They think of themselves as Lucy and Ethel, but their senses of humor are only part of the story. Together, these two are a fortress of institutional knowledge, and have seen their department through changes in technology, staffing, policies and procedures, and much more.

The department's business manager, Linda sets and maintains budgets, and ensures the department's financial well-being. As office supervisor, LeAnn oversees student workers and office support staff, and is responsible for a whole gamut of duties related to the logistics of supporting faculty and administrators in the department.

One of my goals for the Academic Stars campaign is to ensure that all of our employees get some of the fame and acclaim they so richly deserve. Without great staff like Bryan, Linda and LeAnn, the college simply couldn't function. Please join me in congratulating our newest academic stars. To read more about Linda, LeAnn and Bryan, visit the Academic Stars page.
