Good things in Physics and Astronomy

I'm really jazzd today about the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

A first-year assistant professor, Axel Enders, in the department just won an NSF Career award. This is an extremely prestigious grant for a young scientist.

Diandra Leslie-Pelecky, an associate professor in the department is featured in an article today in the New York Times http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/12/science/12tier.html?8dpc for her recently published book "The physics of NASCAR". In this book, a break from her usual work on nanomaterials, she explains how physics and math play a critical role in stock car racing. Books like this should help draw more people into science.
